Smart meters – The intelligent electricity meter

Lower your energy costs with smart metering

Smart metering enables high-precision consumption logging that goes beyond traditional electricity and gas metering. It can also include detailed tracking of other energy forms, such as heat and water. The data is visualized in real time on a user-friendly interface so that you always have an overview of your energy consumption. Smart metering can significantly reduce energy consumption and represents an important step towards green energy. After all, the more consciously energy is used, the greater the impact on your company's carbon footprint.
The installation of smart meters is simple and straightforward. Most electricity and gas providers offer suitable models that are compatible with the existing infrastructure. Thanks to their intuitive operation and the transparent display/logging of measured values, smart metering is a win-win situation for any company. It represents a clever way to reduce energy and electricity costs while acting more sustainably. Take advantage of this technical innovation for your company and invest in the future!

The first step is to check whether your existing meter systems already have a digital or optical interface. If this is the case, smart meters can be installed relatively easily.

If your meters do not yet have a digital interface, you may need new smart meter units. Fortunately, the process is usually straightforward and carried out by experts who will ensure that the new devices are installed and set up correctly. Need advice on retrofitting smart meters? Difference between smart meters and smart meter gateways

A smart meter is simply a digital meter. As a stand-alone product, this can do little more than its analog predecessor apart from the digital display. The great advantage of the modern meter is that you can now connect your machines and devices to it individually and thereby precisely evaluate energy consumption. A variety of options are available for data transmission. For example, the data from the meter can be read directly via a USB interface and transferred directly to your local network via LAN,WLAN or LoRa-WAN.

Do smart meters only work with electricity meters?

Currently, smart meters are most often used in connection with electricity meters. However, their application can be expanded to include many other areas. For example, LoRa-WAN measurement sensors can also be used to evaluate electrical consumption directly at individual machines. Thanks to their Plug&Play capability, various sensors can be connected to the network.

For example, we have already installed a smart meter that measures water levels at a fish ladder. Other applications coming soon:

  • Gas meters
  • Water meters
  • And much more
  • Indoor air measurement
  • CO and CO2 measurement
